“Working Beats Depression, Injury and Illness” Latest Statistics Show

A report from the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) * show that working is good for your health and not working for long periods can lead to higher incidences of injury, illness and disability.

The research shows that active participation in the workforce can dramatically improve the lives of those suffering from a mental illness or disability. It displays statistics that show that working improves general health and wellbeing, reduces psychological distress and assists in recovery.

It also validates the work of leading Disability Employment Services Group, Artius Employment in their offices in Ipswich and the Gold Coast, where they help more than 500 people with a disability per year to search, find and maintain jobs.

"We find the benefits to people finding suitable and supportive work are significant and extend far beyond financial rewards. Working also provides improvements in health, relationships, self esteem and confidence” Managing Director Paul Stokes commented today. "We are thrilled that the research confirms what we knew all along, that work is good for you, and not working can be bad for your health.”

The report refers to the work of Professor Sir Mansel Aylward who has summarised the evidence regarding being out of the workforce for long periods. Professor Aylward notes that long term worklessness:

Artius Celebrates Federal Budget Support for Workplace Participation and Mental Health

1106_Artius-Group_Logo_small

Gold Coast Disability Employment Services and Allied Health Business, Artius Group are  celebrating the announcements from the federal budget that brought mental health, disability support and workplace participation to the fore.

“We are very happy to see such positive support for those with illness, injury and disability.  The programs and incentives that have been announced will undoubtedly offer plenty more reasons for employers to draw potential staff from these often-maligned groups.  It will provide some real and beneficial support to those in need,” said Paul Stokes, Managing Director of Artius Group.

Artius Group, run by local couple, Paul and Libby Stokes, has been built from the ground up, providing employment services to people with a disability or mental illness, and allied health services to their local communities in Ipswich and the Gold Coast.  With 6 offices throughout Queensland, the group is licensed to provide Disability Employment Services, and is the only service provider in their field nationally that specialises in Mental Health.

“Our team has been working for 6 years to push better support for workplace participation for the mentally ill in the belief that having a job that offers a sense of purpose is sometimes the best medicine that anyone can offer those with mental illness or disability,” said Managing Director Paul Stokes.  “This budget will allow us to help so many more people”.

Several positive changes in the budget will flow through to Artius clients, offering immediate benefits:

  • The Federal Government’s changes to the Disability Support Pension now allow disability pensioners to ease their way back into the workforce without penalty.

“The Disability Support Pension was previously structured in a way that offered little or no incentive to get back to work once you started receiving it, as clients would immediately lose their entitlement to the pension when they started any work at all, said Paul.

Chain store designers to cut the cost of retail fitouts by up to half with new approach

Picture_161Design Design, one of Australia’s most successful retail interior architects have officially launched a new business today that will change the price and approach to chain store fitouts forever.

Their new firm, Project Duo, modularises the design of national chain stores, and develops a series of “shop kits” that can be fitted to different sized and shaped spaces in many diverse and easily modified layouts.

The kits, which present one uniform, brand elevating look and feel for each national chain offer an enormous aesthetic improvement to stores with large racking and product display requirements and allow fitout components to be bulk-purchased off one design for maximum cost efficiency.  They reduce the sunk cost of establishing a new store in a chain or franchise and provide enormous benefits when rolled out across chains.

The design approach of the business has been shown across many stores to increase sales, and now, with this modular approach it can decrease costs too.

Kits can be manufactured in less than 6 weeks and rolled over existing shopfronts in just 3 days, maintaining business continuity as a top priority and reducing the cost of lost trading time.
